Merle Billie

FORT WINGATE — Funeral services for Merle Charles Billie, 43, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at the Bethany Christian Reform Church in Gallup. The Rev. Keith Bulthuis will officiate. A private disposition will be on family land in Mariano Lake. Visitation will be at 2-4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2011.

Billie died on Sept. 3, 2011, in Gallup. He was born Dec. 3, 1968, in Gallup.

Bille enjoyed helping people and animals, playing basketball, waterskiing, downhill skiing, golfing, playing football, camping, fishing, playing jokes on people and telling jokes. He loved being with his family and spending time with his sons.

Survivors include his sons Joseph C. Billie, of Wolf Point, Mont., and Bryan Paywa, of Zuni, and mother Mellie Billie, of Fort Wingate. He was preceded in death by his father Charles Billie; grandparents Tom H. Grey and Bessie Grey.
Pallbearers will be members of his family.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the family residence after services.

Rollie Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Helen Brown

BORREGO PASS — Funeral services for Helen Begay Brown, 68, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at the Navajo Christian Church in Borrego Pass. Kee Tapaha will officiate. Burial will be on a private family plot in Casamero Lake.

Brown was born into the One Who Walks Around People Clan for the Cliff Dweller People Clan.
Brown was part of a five year special program at the Sherman Institute in Riverside. Calif. She was a housemaid in Hollywood and Beverly Hills, Calif., and a cook’s helper at Borrego Pass School. She enjoyed sewing, making quilts and pillowcases, doing puzzles and word searches. Brown loved to cook and people loved her yeast rolls. She also loved watching western movies and wrestling, going to the casino, attending powwows and being with her grandchildren. She never missed her favorite soap opera “Days of our Lives.” Her favorite Navajo band was The Thunders and her favorite singers were Darius Rucker, Sugarland, Peyote and Powwow songs.

Survivors include her husband Jimmie Brown; sons Virgil and Ronnie Brown; daughter Helene Brown-Lewis; brothers Kee Begay, Paul Begay, Mike Begay, Leland Begay, Amos Begay, Gary Begay, and Ray Begay; sisters Ruth Joseph and Marilyn Begay; and 10 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father Jack C. Begay; mother Louise C. Begay; brothers Peter C. Begay and Henry Begay.

Pallbearers will be Cody Brown, Ty Brown, Dominick Lewis, T.J. Begay, Ray Begay and Julian Begay.
The family will

meet at the Casamero Lake Chapter House after services.

Jane Dick

CHINLE, Ariz. — Funeral services for Jane Dick, 82, will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at the Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Chinle, Ariz. Father Blaine will officiate. Burial will be in Chinle Community Cemetery.

Dick died Sept. 6, 2011, in Chinle. She was born Aug. 10, 1929, in Black Mountain, Ariz., into the Charcoal Streak Red Running into the Water People Clan for the Bitter Water People Clan.

Dick worked at Chinle Boarding School and Many Farms, Ariz., as a cook helper. She also used to sell hay with her husband Joe Yazzie in Chinle, Piñon and surrounding areas.

Survivors include seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Yesbah Tsosie and Delgai Tsosie and siblings Ernest Tsosie, Chischilly Tsosie and Zonnie Tsosie.

Pallbearers will be Johnson Yazzie, Erickson Preston, Leo A Preston and Lorenzo Robbins.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Louise Tsosie’s residence, 6 1/2 miles north of Chinle and west at mile marker 454.

Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
